The Wairarapa
Fern & Thistle Pipe Band was formed in 1958 by Pipe Major Iain
McDonald. It was successful in winning the Grade Three Championship
at the Timaru National Contest in 1966. The Tartan
worn by the band is the Hunting McLean of Duart, said to be one of
the most ancient of Tartans.
